The argument is that straight vanes will fly faster with less drag, while offset and helical designs will improve bolt centricity and stability in flight. There are three vane shapes: straight, offset and helical.

A single vane might weigh in anywhere from 5-10 grains, so that’d be 15 grains between three vanes. The vanes or fletching are the traditional ‘feathers’ at the back of the bolt. Let’s take a look at what they tweak: Vanes/Fletching For a bolt to be as accurate as possible it needs three things: weight at the front, perfect rotation of the shaft, and drag from the rear.īolt manufacturers are well aware of this, and constantly tweak their arrows to find the best balance and consistency. Best crossbow bolts: understanding your boltĪ good bolt is a consistently accurate bolt.

#Crossbow bolt mod
So yeah, blame Todd Howard when this mod doesn't live up to your expectations. But I can't tweak it to where it gets rid of the issue because then the crossbow reloading animation won't line up with the bolt quiver anymore. I alleviated the issue somewhat by rotating the bolts and moving them slightly upwards. So the bolts move with the spine while running, and not with the hip. This is because Bethesda has attached the bolt quiver to the quiver node, which moves with the spine of the character, instead of the hip, where the bolt quiver is actually located. Also be aware that this mod only slightly helps with "floatiness" during the running Animation. Keep in mind that the positioning of bolts and arrows will never be perfect because of how body weight and armor sizes work in the vanilla game. You can let that mod overwrite my meshes or my mod overwrite theirs, it won't lead to issues. this implementation is basically the same as in the mod Arrows and Bolt Tweaks. In vanilla they only penetrate with just the tip, and The bolts should now be less "floaty" during the running animation and have a better position in most armors and at all body weights.Īs a little bonus I also adjusted the Projectile meshes to go deeper into bodies. But I also tweaked the bolt positions, since I was never happy with the originals. So I just did the same for all the newly added bolt quiver meshes. This is because Belt-fastened Quivers moves the quiver node of the skeleton and compensates for that movement by adjusting the positions of the meshes of vanilla bolt quivers (steel and dwarven). This mod includes some new crossbow bolts, which have weird positions when using the Belt-fastened Quivers mod.
